about

‘Light Is Polluting the City’ is the second full-length album of Angel Simitchiev under the semi-anonymous name of Dayin. This time his more melancholic alter ego takes a closer look at our urban habitats whose nights are becoming more and more densely polluted by lights of various sources. By deciding to pursuit our lives in big cities we are all forced to exist under the invisible pressure of massive ads, intrusive neon, blood red signs and nervously flashing LEDs. Not only we don’t see the stars in the sky anymore because of the industrial smog embracing our concrete worlds but we can no longer experience our cities colored in monochrome. This reality feels as repulsive as it can be hypnotic and inspiring.

Angel Simitchiev started recreating his long and disorienting walks at various cities at night somewhere around late 2016 to early 2017. Versions of ‘Light Is Polluting the City’ were performed live in Poznan, Berlin, Sofia and Varna until the last bits recorded in the summer of 2018. Through a palette of colorful and warm pads, static noisescapes, raw low frequencies, harsh re-amping through guitar gear Dayin gradually portrays a quest for solitude, the long-forgotten comfort of urban darkness through a louder and more raw take on the project’s usual escapist sound.
